Hi

I have been type 1 diabetic for nearly 2 years now and my sugars seem to be all over the place. throughout the day they seem to be pretty stable but morning they seem to go really high. last night before bed i was 6.6 then tested this morning and was 13.2. I have also put on about 3 stone since going onto insulin.

I am also wanting to start trying for family in October but have been advised that i am no wear near in a position to be trying. I am trying so hard to get my sugars back down to a level but just seems to be so difficult and at this rate i feel like i am never going to be able try for a baby.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Vicki

Hi there

It seems like most of us have high sugars in the morning because of *either* dawn phenomenon or somogyi effect, which Is why fasting blood sugar often taken in the morning is used as a diagnostic tool.

I am no expect as I am not injecting insulin, but insulin is a fat storage hormone- would you say you eat a lot of carbs? Before you went on insulin your body wasn't able to use the sugars you were eating, which is why a symptom of T1 diabetes is weight loss. Now your body can use all that sugar from your blood stream it seems like there is more than you need to operate so it gets stored as fat. Same concept as a non diabetic or anyone else eating too much sugar, though no T1 I know personally feels like they should low carb or otherwise change their diet.

At least that is what I think. Wait for a second opinion from another T1 because I am undiagnosed and don't have the wisdom of a DSN to back up my post.

You could also talk to Your DSN. Or GP. Unless they are useless like mine.

Best wishes x

PS Don't fret, you'll get there. I'm young but the prospect of not being able to have kids is real for me too. I have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and Endometriosis. My options are surgery for one problem and controlling blood sugar for the other and my GP is not helping. I know the feeling like you might run out of time and have a useless womb. Don't panic. Tomorrow is another day to do something to change it.
