I have to go for my first post-diagnosis blood test at 08:50 next Wednesday. Do you get a more accurate reading if it's fasting or post-prandial, or doesn't it matter?

An HbA1c test does not require fasting as it measures your blood over the previous 2 to 3 months and is not a snap shot of what your levels are at the time of the test. However, if you are also having a full cholesterol and lipid profile test (which is usual) you may find it beneficial to fast for a more accurate result on the Triglycerides.

Thanks for this advice.

I only get my full cholesterol breakdown if my test is a fasting (10-12 hours) one, and it's marked as such on my blood test form. But for the actual HbA1c, as Bluetit's explained, fasting isn't relevant.
