Blood test timing?

I am food controlled Type 2 diabetic. Normally when I go for a blood test I am told "fasting" or any time. This time I've not been informed. My surgery is not always as easy to get answers from as I could wish. So, the request form asks for a test for HbA 1c Level. Anyone know if I should be fasting or not, or if it doesn't matter? Obviously if I can get through to my surgery, I'll try and get a response there, but this might be quicker! Thanks.

I was told for my last HbA1c I did not need to fast and didn't.

It might be as well to check with your surgery if you can get through.

An HbA1c test does not require fasting because it is a sort of average of the previous 2 to 3 months levels and not a snapshot at the time the test is taken. However, if you are also having a snapshot blood glucose test you do need to fast, and if you are also having a cholesterol and lipid test it is wise to fast.

Thank you. Only that one test, plus renal and liver tests. I was recently in hospital for a hip fracture, and blood tests were all over the place, so I think these are just making sure things are back to normal.
