Hola

Yes
Blurred vision for me too on diagnosis but as you can see not an uncommen theme. All adjusted now had a ret scan and been to the optrician just now for some reading glasses for the pc. Wish I had known of this thread on diagnosis!

I was diagnosed at Christmas 2014 and I had the blurry vision too but hadn't realised it was T2. After three ,months it has cleared and the lady at the retinal photography place said to leave it 6 months before an eye check as it takes that long to settle. I can't believe now - looking back - how bad it was. I thought it was just old age!! MY BG was 15 then and is around 6.5 now.

DianaRose I hope it's not three months as I am really struggling, my reading glasses don't work now so it's hard for me to read and type emails etc difficult when running a bed and breakfast lol although my reading glasses work for the blurred vision. I will see what specsavers say at my appointment in a few weeks. I didn't relate the blurred vision to my diabetes either but glad that it will go eventually. Glad your bg is stabilising its not easy and my head is still getting round it all.

I think I was in a state of shock when I was told it has taken me this long to come to terms with it and I have good support & encouragement from my surgery. I have genetic T2 so I don't think I could have avoided it even though none of my family was overweight or didn't exercise and I am not particularly overweight and I go to the gym, walk my dogs and look after my husband who is disabled.

Yes my eyes were once like yours are now. I am a writer and painter and was really struggling. I couldn't read the strap line on my TV which isn't far away and I have varifocals too! I started to worry about driving and thought the blurriness and blackspots were just part of aging.I'm just 64! I do have dry eyes and so thought it was that and was trying loads of different drops and sprays. I found sitting and looking at my computer was horrible and made my eyes even worse. It wasn't so long ago I saw my optician so when I had the retinal photo done as part of the diabetes check - which was fine and sooo reassuring - then I found as I cut down the carbs and sugars my eyesight slowly improved and I wasn't walking around in a fog anymore mentally or physically! I can now read the strapline so easily and am cross with myself for not realising something was wrong. Anyway it is 14 weeks later and my sight is fine and almost back to normal. Now I am writing & drawing again and working on a new children's book.

So BARRAGIRL...cheer up! The fog will clear and don't worry so much. I was like you not so long ago but grabbed the T2 as an opportunity to sort out my bad habits and lifestyle and now feel and see so much better and you will too...honestly. You'll get there. Let me know how you get on. xx

Hi Barragirl
My eyesight got blurred shortly after diagnosis a few weeks back. My BG is now between 7 and 8.5 and my eyesight is beginning to return to normal. I was so scared, frustrated and lost it a couple of times but it will get better. I have reading glasses too and was using them just to see as my distance ones were not working at all. My optician sorted them and when the eyesight changes again he'll sort them for me so I can see. There is light at the end of the tunnel.

My BG's are always at around 8, even early in the morning. At two times I woke up at 2 am the BG test were still high. The doctor diagnosed that I had Dawn phenomenon. I never had medical treatment, except some traditional herbal drinks and it doesn't help very much. Recently I had blurred vision also and I feel better when trying to get away from the computers as much as possible. Besides eating less on low carb is obviously a good help.
