One more health care specialists - the optician in this case- for the diabetes.co.UK hall of fame.I made an appointment with the optician the same day as I noticed my vision had blurred as I had only just been diagnosed with diabetes no one had mentioned anything about waiting six weeks the doc didnt even say anything whe I told her about the problem with my eyesight
The optician seen (no pun intended  ) gave me a better explanation about diabetes then the docs did and somehow could even work out my BG level just looking at my eyes
Explained my eyes should return to normal but would give me some temporary glasses at no charge
What you need to watch out for is that some opticians will charge you for glasses that you may only need for a couple of weeks then charge you again when they need changing
I was back at the opticians yesterday as my eyesight has changed again more or less back to normal now and the temporary glasses were to strong
Asked me to bring in any pairs of glasses in that I wanted and he would put in new lenses again free of charge
Blurred vision for me too on diagnosis but as you can see not an uncommen theme. All adjusted now had a ret scan and been to the optrician just now for some reading glasses for the pc. Wish I had known of this thread on diagnosis! Not long diagnosed bs was at 20 got it down to between 6 and 8. Last week my vision blurred but my reading glasses seem to work but not for reading. II also told my practise nurse about my blurred vision she just said she would make an appointment with the ophthalmist but that is not available till May. I am so glad that I decided to look up the forum on blurred vision. I hope it returns to normal soon as I don't like how it feels. Great to hear about how others cope with this, thank God for this forum. I have learned so much on here thank you.
I was diagnosed at Christmas 2014 and I had the blurry vision too but hadn't realised it was T2. After three ,months it has cleared and the lady at the retinal photography place said to leave it 6 months before an eye check as it takes that long to settle. I can't believe now - looking back - how bad it was. I thought it was just old age!! MY BG was 15 then and is around 6.5 now.Not long diagnosed bs was at 20 got it down to between 6 and 8. I think I was in a state of shock when I was told it has taken me this long to come to terms with it and I have good support & encouragement from my surgery. I have genetic T2 so I don't think I could have avoided it even though none of my family was overweight or didn't exercise and I am not particularly overweight and I go to the gym, walk my dogs and look after my husband who is disabled.DianaRose I hope it's not three months as I am really struggling, my reading glasses don't work now so it's hard for me to read and type emails etc difficult when running a bed and breakfast lol although my reading glasses work for the blurred vision. I will see what specsavers say at my appointment in a few weeks. I didn't relate the blurred vision to my diabetes either but glad that it will go eventually. Glad your bg is stabilising its not easy and my head is still getting round it all.
