I was diagnosed a week ago today and since then I've noticed my eyesight weakening and becoming blurred. Sometimes my sight will be fine but sometimes it is awful. Is this a natural reaction to changing glucose levels or could it be more serious?

Hi there, my eyesight was all over the place on diagnosis its gradually got better and now 2 months in it's about back to normal. You should be getting an eye screening as party of your diabetes care may be worth talking to your Doc about it might be able to get it done sooner.

Hi there,
High BG levels change the osmotic pressure and balance within the eye which can alter the ability to properly focus and cause blurring. If you have extended periods of hyperglycemia (high blood sugars) then this can be a side-effect - if good control of sugars is regained this can and should subside. It is unlikely that you would have retinopathy at this stage however this is something you should be regularly (once per year) screened for.
