Bolus advice please

Hi,

Just started Apidra and I have one week under my belt but not getting what I want for assistance.

1. Should I inject before snacks or not.
2. How can one find what percentage of insulin to carbs is right
3. I am afraid of lows and therefore I need to be careful. I am hoping for any advice on what to do to get accurate results.
4. My drug plan won't refill my test strips to allow me to test before every meal and snack how many test 4-5 times a day.

I am also on Lantus one injection at night of a whopping 120 units. I guess my body is not using insulin effectively. I am hoping that with the addition of the Bolus that might be reduced.

No course yet but I am giving 1 unit for each 3 grams of carb I plan to eat right now and I have had three days with good readings while home and then I went to work for three days and they went up just a bit. Guess I have to plan food better for work.
