Borderline diabetes....

Can anyone help me? I am a little confused, recently I had to have blood tests done, cholesterol, thyroid levels checking, full blood count, liver function test, I was called back to discuss my blood results, and I was shocked to be told that I was borderline for diabetes, I believe it was 6.1, my doctor told me that I was borderline 2 years ago, I was shocked, I was then asked to see the nurse, who has told me that I have 12 weeks to get my blood sugar level down, before I have to have a fasting test done again. She told me to loose weight and watch my diet, but NEVER suggested anything about diet, only to ask me if I ate alot of sweet stuff, to which I said NO. I was told it the blood sugar level it up in 12 weeks time then I have to go for a glucose tolerence test.

All this has come as a shock to me, as 12 months ago I was diagnosed with high blood pressure, which thankfully is undercontrol, I was also told I had underactive thyroid, which is being treated, I was anaemic too, So it has been a long struggle for me, before going on medication I was loosing weight, but since taking the medication for blood pressure, thyroid & anaemia, I have put weight on. I was told that I could not exercise as this was not good for me, I have been sent to see a heart specialist, I have had an angiogram done, I go back this friday, with a view to a couple of other tests.

What I would like to know is where I can get information on diet or anything that might help me.

Many thanks.

Hi lady and a warm welcome to the forum.
The advice given to newly diagnosed has been compiled by the Monitors and is a good start to sort your sugar levels out.

You may be able to ward off a diagnosis of diabetes if you follow this advice. You will need a meter and test strips to help you.

Hope this helps.

Hi Lady
welcome to the forum i was diagnosed type2 a month ago @18 stone.
i have lost 12lb approx 3lb/wk. Basicly avoiding sugar .Eating 5/day veg etc. I can't exersize due to a spinal injury. Have you got a meter for testing your bloods?
If not you should because the first thing that helps is knowing what lifts your blood levels .There will be someone replying to you with a link reffering to New diabetics
which gives you a rough idea of what is what .Have a good look around the forum we are a friendly bunch of helpfull people. Good luck
Don't be scared to ask anything JF.
