Australian diabetics fail to meet national dietary sodium, potassium guidelines
Lots of self-indulgent ozzies...? But maybe every country might be the same..?

Recommended daily sodium and potassium intake should be less than 100 mmol and more than 120 mmol, respectively, for individuals with a high risk for cardiovascular (CV) disease. However Elif Ekinci (Austin Health, Victoria, Australia) and team found that “only 3% of male patients and 14% of female patients with Type 2 diabetes met the Australian NHF guidelines for sodium consumption.”
This was despite all patients receiving dietary advice stressing actions such as avoiding high-energy processed foods and consuming lots of fresh fruit and vegetables.
Apparently women were worse than men too!
Results "reflect excessive consumption of sodium-rich processed food”
It goes on to say hypertensive and normotensive individuals could reduce their systolic blood pressure (SBP) by 5 and 2.5 mmHg, respectively, simply by reducing their salt intake by 3g per day.
If only if only... 8)
I fancy a banana, but hang on what will that do to my blood sugar doc? 8)
