Breakfast on the go

Hi I am struggling with breakfast ideas. I don't have time (or inclination) to eat before I go to school which means I am limited to about 15 mins in the morning when I get there! I used to have cereal and milk or porridge or fruit bread and butter - I know realise how bad this is for my BG.

My problem is - it has to be something easy to cart to school, could be microwaved, but cannot be smelly (eating in staff room) and I don't like nuts or unusual things :roll: so with all these restrictions can anyone come up with something to help please? (Also have asthma so dairy can be an issue too )
 
I take hard boiled eggs for breakfast on the go (do the night before). Or flax bread or homemade low carb muffins. Or cheese on its own if I'm badly organised!
 
Cheese is looking good at the moment - but I have to say I am a bit of a wimp when it comes to 'unusual' breads etc!
 
Tried flax bread, seemed to spend a lot more time in the loo ! I prefer to stick with a slice or two of sunflower seed or poppy seed bread, together with a chunk of cheese although I thought you said dairy wasn't an option ??

It isn't great in the morning as my asthma can make it a bit 'claggy'! And then I spend a lot of time coughing!

If I could face eating at 6am I would have rashers and tomatoes - but it is far too early and I never have the time - trying to get us all to school on time!

Can I ask where do you get these breads from? Are they specialist or will I find them in the supermarket?
 
burgen bread is good for a lot of us (not all) - its 11g carb a slice and I can have 2 slices without it spiking my bs - you can get it at all the big supermarkets and lots of smaller shop ar doing it now too - its easy to get and you don't have to make it yourself :lol:
 
that is good - do have a bread maker - but never seem to have time to use it!
 
I've read this thread with interest as I'm T1 and always eat porridge as although it's heavy on carbs (and I try to reduce carbs, breakfast is the only meal when I eat any number of carbs) I figured at least it was 'healthy carbs' and I too don't have time to go cooking up a storm in the morning!!
I treat myself to a couple of slices of toast from a warburtons seeded batch loaf (10g carb per slice) at the weekends and had been wondering whether this would be a better breakfast option as it's less carbs?!
I think I've become so conditioned to 'bread is bad' theory that I've thought I shouldn't!!
Be interested to know your thoughts? I find breakfast a nightmare to sort in a healthy low carb not eating nuts for breakfast kind of way!!!
 
Best thing to do is to check your BG after porrige and toast for breakfast, and see how each affects you.

Porrige is a no-no for me. I don't need to measure my BG to know that I'm sky high. I feel absolutely aweful after eating a bowl of oats...

Porridge does make me go high so I have to use a lot of insulin (have got the levels right so I don't spike but I just thought it's probably healthier! But then is it healthier if I need extra insulin??? I don't know I get soooo confused!! :roll:
 
I have the same problem with breakfast.
My alarm goes of at 2.30 am so i can leave at 3.30 am and to be honest i cant face eating at that time of day, Boiled eggs sounds good but I cant have them everyday.
Im a delivery driver and all there is on the road is the layby places or Mc Donalds.

It is so ahrd - I feel like I am being really picky - during the school hols it is fine as I can suit myself - the family are quite happy to have bacon with me - but at school it is a different matter - occasionally can get use of the microwave (as long as it hasn't been condemned again!) we did have a toaster - but that went the same way I think! So it needs to be something I can bring with me!
Hubby had suggested scrambled egg - was also thinking fruit - at the moment I am craving grapefruit (not pregnant - just very sophisticated cravings!) so will have that as well!
 
have you tried a smoothie for breakfast as i have 2 small kids and getting ready for work i usually have a smoothie here are a few recepies.
