Breakfast

I am new to all this so please forgive if I come across naiive etc.

When I got up this morning rather late about 9am(very cold and snowy here at the moment) my Bg was 6.4 I was surprised by it being that high. I then had breakfast as usual and then tested 2 hrs later and stunned at a reading of 10.6 I had what I normally have but with one difference.

I have Kelloggs Optiva Berry Oat Crisp with semi skimmed milk. I have a largish protion as I am normally very hungry then. The readings I have had after that normally were about 7.0

Today there wasn't much left in the packets except the large amounts of 'crumbs' and the dried fruit. Possibly all the 'sugar' could have been left at the bottom? There wasn't a lot to eat so I added a shredded wheat for good measure. Surpised at the high reading 2 hrs later though.
That cerial is supposed to lower cholestrol and that is why I have been eating it for well over a year every morning.
The nutrient information about carbohygrates per 100gms states: 68gms carbohydrates of which sugars 20gms and starch 48gms. Fat 5gms saturates 0.9g

Should I continue with this breakfast cerial or go back to weetabix or shredded wheat. Or cut it out altogether.

By the way I always add some fresh blueberries to my cerial-- is that a good idea?

I also read somewhere that I should try to eat scambled eggs or omelettes made with the pure liquid egg white that can be bought. Any views on all this please.

At present I am not on any medication for T2. I am on atenol, statins and soluble aspirin daily. Been on that for years.

I never knew about the problems you highlighted with cholestrol. I'll be aware of that now.

This morning I scrambled two small eggs and toasted a slice of wholegrain bread. I had that about 10am so I will wait a little while to check Bg on that. If it is not a good idea to have the toast what would you recommend with scrambled eggs to have?

I took my reading a couple of hours after my breakfast of two scrambled eggs and a slice of wholewheat toasted bread with a mug of tea. I was a bit disappointed that it was 7.7

Next time I will cut out the bread and add a sausage or bacon or something like that. I have some hot dogs in a jar- think I'll have one of those.

I was wondering whether that 'pure egg white' stuff would be worth a try.

I also want to get some of those low carb noodles -shirataki noodles. My wife is a Filipina and I miss her lovely stir fries. With those noodles I could handle it, i guess.

As regards the 'yolk'- I was concerned about cholestrol. I do take statins to control it so I thought it was best to reduce the risk.

I could always use one natural egg and then add some of the egg white liquid to 'beef' it up a bit.

I was very encouraged yesterday after my evening meal. Before the meal I was 5.2 I had cold left over chicken with some cold left over cauliflower. I made a salad to go with it. A Greek style salad with some feta cheese and dressed it with extra virgin olive oil and some balsamic vinegar. I had no bread whatsoever. I enjoyed the meal with a mug of tea. my reading 2 hours later was 5.4 !

This morning I had two scrambled eggs with a thin type of bockwurst sausage. Again no bread or toast. I missed not having the toast! I will take my reading soo to see how I am.

I am so grateful for all the advice and help and encouragement.

Took the reading after two hours following my breakfast and it was 4.9 So obviously cutting out the carbohydrate and not having breakfast cerials seems at present to be OK for me.

I am going shopping in a minute. I might try a pork chop or a steak tonight with either veg or salad and see how I go.

I also have some blueberries. My wife has bought some low fat creme fraiche-- is that OK to eat or maybe I should get some fromage frais to have with the fruit. Any ideas or suggestions?

One other little problem. I used to always be 'regular' going to the toilet(No. 2's) every morning-- since I have cut down drastically on carbohydrates I don't seem as regular. Any thoughts on this please.

Thanks for that. Pity about the apples. Obviously grapes would be even worse I guess. Any suggestions on fruit to eat?

I also want to lose weight which was recommended I do. Will the low carb help with that even though I will eating more fats etc. Especially butter and cream!

I am learning a lot here.
