Breastfeeding With High Blood Sugar

I was diagnosed when my baby was 5 months old (he’s six months tomorrow) so obviously my sugars had been very high for a time before diagnosis and are lower but still not normal now. I know sugar goes through to milk and noticed some effects on him but I can’t find any info beyond “it’s fine if your diabetes is controlled”. Does anyone know anything about the effects if it’s not controlled? I know it’s normal for it to take a while for numbers to settle but I’m worried about the effect on my son.

I don't have any answers, as I don't know, but at least this'll bump your thread. Just out of curiousity, what kind of effects did you notice on your son?

He gained a lot of weight, he was with me in A&E when I was diagnosed and even there the nurses commented. I’d been saying I couldn’t understand it, he looked like a baby whose been over fed formula but he’d had nothing but breast milk. Also he started feeding every 1-2 hours round the clock where he had been doing the occasional 8 hour stint at night. He must have been getting a sugar rush then crashing, as soon as my numbers got down to 20ish he started going longer between feeds.
