rude people, intolerances of different life styles, migraines and getting old!
Stupid question really but just for reassurance: have been given a course of steroids and antibiotics and have noticed that my BS readings are quite high (16.8, 15.7). This is down to the drugs I pressume and will hopefully subside when my system has purged of them?

I have had to have antibiotics and steroids together for chest infections before. Dr warned me that my bg would probably go sky high but would go back down within a couple of days of finishing the course. Just monitor bg while you're taking them and you should see some improvement. any problems go back to dr.

On Page 451 of my edition of Bernstein, htere's the beginning of a long list o drugs which raise BG.

Thank you for helpful response (as ever) to my question. Steroids now finished and only two more days of antibiotics to go so hopefully can get back to normal (or as normal as I can be!!!)

The steroid effect can persist for quite a while. It will settle Suzil. Just don't get too disappointed with your sugars in the next few weeks.

Just wondering, what kind of dosage of steroids are you on that has this bad effect on your blood sugars? My doc was talking about starting me on a low dose (maybe 5mg) of hydrocortisone but over a longer term period. Does the dosage matter or is it any amount of steroid that has a deleterious effect?
