Hi, Can anyone help me as i am a little confused. I am on Levimar at night and the morning, injection ever 12 hours, so usually 9.30 at night and morning, and i am on Humalog as my Bolus. in the morning from about 5am my bs starts to rise, even when i take my bolus for breakfast. So i would go from 6 to 14 between 5 am and 12pm, then i would come down to 5.5 at 2pm before lunch. then after lunch i go up to about 7.5 and stay like around that for the afternoon, i will then come down to about 5 before dinner.

But i am more concerned with what is happening to me between 5am and 12 pm and how to sort out the problem

Any help would be much appreciated

Firstly, my interpretation of BS is what I get from my GP, they're full of it. Anyway, nice to make your acquaintance. I'm not an expert but I think your issues maybe to do with what's called ' liver dump' where it fires your body up during the morning, part of this includes the release of glucagon into your blood stream. My GP, and a few people on here, have told me not to take BS readings in the morning nor to expect a low reading.

There are far more knowledgable members that maybe able to offer far better analysis than I, please do google 'liver dump' or pre-dawn syndrome and see if you can match it to your symptoms. With kind regards, Q..

Can't ignore those highs, have you tried skipping breakfast to see if you still go up?
q has rightly said liver dump, many experience this. The way I can adjust for it is by using a pump. I have extra basal during the earlier hours to cope with the liver dump and then not effect the rest of the day. Also, people tend to be more insulin resistant in the morning and require extra bolus. Skip breakfast, test morning and every hour till lunch, you will then see if its a basal or bolus problem.

Cheers, thanks for that, I'll try it and see how I get on
