BS readings

I hope she makes a speedy recovery. Confidence is so important - I know my grandad no longer goes out after his last fall because he has lost his confidence. Have a nice time there. I was born near Tynemouth.

Yes, confidence is so important. I hope she wins her battle. The NHS is second to none in many fields. I have no complaints outside the diabetes field. Have a lovely time in York.

I have been chatting on the morning fasting thread about my current tub of Codefree strips from batch ending 72.
Wildly erratic readings, some of which are just ridiculous, confirmed as such in part by cross checking with my Accu Chek.

A lot better day today, feeling better as well.

What is everyone's honest opinion of these readings? Would the initial spike concern you enough to avoid this meal again, considering it is above the 7.8 but we all know non diabetics can reach the 9's at an hour, the trick being to be back down again at 2hrs.

5.3 before tea
9.4 after 1 hour
8.6 after 1.5hrs
6.3 after 2hrs
5.8 after 2.5hrs
5.3 after 3hrs.

Spike would bother me, but you know my attitude to these things BT What I found interesting was the big drop between 1.5 and 2 hours.

What did you eat?

I don't tend to test routinely at 1hr Bluetit, but when I have for my usual foods, I don't find that there's really all that much difference between 1 hr and 2 hr readings. So if I end up at day 6.3 at 2hrs, I've been there or thereabouts at 1 hr. So I'd probably be concerned to see the middle two readings as I'd not be expecting the drop at 2hrs. I assume you've had something fast releasing like mash or jacket spud?

Not good?

Hi Bluetit, from what I have read, the 6.3 after 2 hours is good reading. I would say this meal is perfectly fine. After 2 hours it was really only a minimal rise.

Thanks everyone for your replies.
Just to add to the above. At bedtime (about 4 hours after eating) I was 4.9 (tested twice to confirm and 5.2 this morning)

From what I have read the initial spike was a bit high although not unknown for non-diabetics, but from 2hours onwards was within non-diabetic range (under 6.6 at 2 hours). I had a very large helping of meat and potato pie without the pastry. The gravy in the pie was made with Bisto and Oxo. The spuds were diced, the meat was steak and kidney. I am always higher at 1 hour than 2 hours, which is why I test both. The 2 hour rise was just 1mmol/l. I am not on any meds, so I think my own insulin did its job to bring me back down as quickly as a non-diabetic. I certainly wouldn't have this type of meal every evening, but I am pleased my insulin coped with it.

Fasting 5.7
Post breakfast 6
Pre dinner 6
Post 6.3
Pre dinner 5.5
Post at 1hr 6.6 didn't bother with two hr test as I had a decaff and some chocolate to cheer me up at 1hr - the wind is dreadful here- scary.

Not much of a gap between lunch and dinner so bit higher than usual and a bit of a dump pre lunch as that was very late. All out of my routine what with junior at home and stuff.
