BS readings

So I tested at 4pm just to see 4.5
Came home felt really shaky used batch 44 4.8 - I'd say I was lower but not using anymore other strips up yet.
No post tea as well tested meal and all the extra tests have made my fingers sore. I try not to use my right hand but I've had to this week.

ok its official.. my liver still hates me in the morning... after having great results for a few weeks, the liver dumps have started again.

5.7 before breakfast
8.4 2hrs later

This result was after a tried and tested breakfast... so I washed my hands again and did another couple of tests using different fingers and got 8.3 and 8.4. So gonna have to go back to the drawing board and think of a new sneaky way to get round it...at least I am now getting lower fasting readings.. so I am sure I will find a way in the end... or learn to live with it...

I know the feeling my fasting was 9 and 6.9 after breakfast

I had a liver dump on fasting this morning. Very unusual for me. I'm normally more or less flat overnight. No explanation, and retesting proved it.
Bedtime 5.0 (normal)
Fasting 5.9 (high)
2hrs after brekkie 6.2 (normal)

So my new meter arrived yesterday. I have only been testing for a few days, my brother sent me his spare meter, but strip expensive. So on reading various forums on this site, (which by the way I think is great ).
I decided to purchase a Codfree.
Reading this morning, before breakfast:
9.1 with the BG Star meter, Yes too high, going to try and work on that
9.0 with the Codfree meter, ok so not such a difference.

Slow walk with our old dog that doesn't seem too bright today.
Approx 2 hours later:
8.2 with the BG Star meter,
9.3 with the Codefree meter, WHAT!!! Ist gone up! ?
8.5 with a second Codefree strip

Now what do I do?????
I am trying very hard to be good after almost ignoring my Type 2 for far too many years.
My nurse said I didn't need to test, but I am trying to do the Lchf thing, and I feel I need to test to be able to work out what to eat.
I go back to nurse in April, I dont want more tablets. I am on metformin 2, twice per day, plus blood pressure tablets.
Sorry this is long, but help needed, PLEASE !

You will always get rogue readings with any meter, and I suggest the 9.3 was such a rogue reading. If you get a reading you were not expecting that is out of your normal range (either low or high) for that time of day, then re-test. If the second reading is similar, then fine, accept it. If it is way out, test again. I often find myself testing twice or 3 times, and end up averaging any clustered readings for my own records.

Thanks for that, but how many strips do you use per day ?

A lot! But I am a pedantic data freak. Once your normal daily meals are sorted and you know what carbs you can or can't cope with portion-wise, you can relax the testing of these meals except if you have a new food, or a naughty food. I have exactly the same breakfast every day, and it is weighed, so I know it is exactly the same. No point in testing that meal now I know it is a safe one. I only test it if my fasting/pre breakfast level was out of my normal range.

Prelunch 5.2

@ 2 hours 5.8

Batch 44. At least that strip seems fine.

Fasting 6.1 (44 not adjusted)
After 5 ( 44 not adjusted)
Pre lunch 5
No after as giving fingers a rest and I had a soy latte at 11/2 hrs - nothing usual in lunch so I'd nit expect much of a rise

At the outset, I probably used about 7-10 a day. Long term, I use 3 or 4.

I always, always test my fasting level, as soon as I get up. I have a couple of breakfasts I understand, having tested them several times each in the early days, so I don't test for them any more, and I am similar with my lunches. I always test around my main meal of the day, which is usually dinner, and do a pre and +2 hours post, even if it's a tried and tested meal.

That combination allows me to check fasting (which I believe is a bit of an indicator of overall control), and the "riskiest" meal of the day, which I believe would start to show variations in readings if my control, or my body wasn't coping so well.

After a few weeks, you'll find yourself know where your ranges are for each meal, and obviously, in the early days, it's lovely to see those go down a bit. For me, these days, I'm happy for them to just stay the same. In reality, as a T2, who doesn't take hypo inducing meds, your testing is all about ranges and trends. It takes a while, but you'll get there.

I would say your strip use (and the costs associated) will taper off a bit in time.

Thanks!

5.1 before lunch
5.3 after lunch

No walk today, as I had to work through lunch as its the boss's first day back after two weeks holiday and its always manic.

Working through lunch, that old slippery slope. The more you work the more they expect it.
Somone leaves, everyone works so much harder to take up the slack, saying to one another, its only till they find a replacement.
Six months later, all are at breaking point, the stress levels are on the roof. Everyone snapping at one another. Then it's the holiday season, a new person starts, and how long does it take to train them.

The manager thinks he has done a great job saving a wage for six months. But his workforce are exhaust ed and are looking for new jobs.
Thus the roundabout goes round.

Well that was what it was like were I worked.
