My diabetic nurse gave me a glucose meter but as yet I don't have a prescription for test strips - I've found someone offering 50 strips for my meter and 100 lancets on eBay for £7.99, which is significantly cheaper than on Amazon. I'm just wondering if this is likely to be a legitimate source for strips or if I should steer clear?

This is the link: http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/True-You-50...%3A99494e8815a0a785462a209bffe22766%7Ciid%3A1

Providing the strips have been stored correctly and haven't passed their expiry then they "should" be okay. FYI, £7.99 is the starting bid and will likely increase substantially.

However (and this is a big however), I wouldn't be choosing to buy any medical supplies from eBay unless it was from a legitimate source such as a shop. You really don't know where they're coming from and how they've been stored. Although all my supplies are prescribed, if I were in your position, I wouldn't use auction sites for my supplies because many people are re-selling their presciptions which is quite a low thing to do IMO. This may, or may not, be the case though...

What you decide to do is your choice though. I'm not one for turning down a bargain, but I'm also not one to throw away money either

Hi natjs does it say if brand new if it does should be ok I have a few test strips etc off eBay and never had any problems.

Who can say if it's legitimate, I usually look at the Sellers Information Feedback before purchasing anything on ebay.

I've bought a few test strips off eBay with no problem. Just check sellers feedback and ratings. Check also they are unopened and in original boxes and well within expiry date. I saw one lot advertised as " loose to save postage" that is definitely a NO NO

I buy all my strips from ebay in sealed packaging, with long expiry dates. I have never had a problem from business and private sellers. I can usually buy all my strips for less than £10 for 50 when the RRP is £25.

When i first started using the forum many type 2's did this before codefree became popular. Over the 6 years I have been testing the number of strips purchased that have been prescribed (removed sticky labels give you a clue) have reduced to zero.
