I was diagnosed with T2 diabetes and put on Metformin at the beginning of November 2023 after taking myself to A&E with blood sugar levels of around 14 which had dropped from 30 the evening before. I was using out of date test strips, that I had for a project for work, so was hoping that they were not accurate. It seems they were still working perfectly. In the Ambulatory Care Unit I had blood taken a number of times and one showed it was for C Peptide, the result not being available that day. The result of this has never been added to my health records and looking on this website it seems to indicate that it should be a fasting blood test which mine wasn't. Hoping someone can give me more information about this test.
I have had to take to paying for a Libre 2 so that I can monitor things better as my blood glucose levels seem to go too high and too low regularly, unless I eat food portions not bigger than to feed a mouse! At the time of going to A&E I had lost about 3/4 of a stone in about 4-5 weeks and since diagnosis have still lost at least another 1/2 stone, possibly more as I am not totally sure of what I weighed before I started losing it. I was a bit overweight but only a size 12 before the weight loss, so not exactly obese. Concerned the T2 diabetes is not correct. If I listened to the diabetic nurse and tested only twice a week I would have no idea what was happening with my levels

c-peptide test can be done in different ways e.g. see here. The combination of blood glucose readings and c-peptide readings are needed to determine outcome. Can you ask for the results - including units ?

I would recommend that you write everything down so that you can show data to the GP or diabetes nurse.
Record the times that you take metformin, any food that you eat (including carbohydrates), your blood glucose reading immediately before eating, and two hours after eating for several days, perhaps a week. Then ask for a C-peptide test if the one taken at the hospital is not available. Good luck.

Thanks ElenaP and Jonathan183 - sorry it wouldn't let me post reply from your replies so had to do this was. Going to ask my GP if they have the results of the C-Peptide test. Keeping note now that I am using the Libre 2 that I can use to discuss with the GP

You speak of high readings after eating; what sort of levels are we talking about, and after what sort of eating and drinking.Whilst your GP may be a nice person, it is unlikely hey will have an in depth knowledge of diabetes - particularly someone presenting atypically.

if you don’t get the answers you feel you need, please ask them to seek an expert (as in an Endo) view, or a referral to see an Endo yourself.
