Hi darlodan,
Welcome to the forum.
Metformin can have different effects on different people. I have not heard of anyone having the side effects that you describe from this.
Do you test your blood sugars and what are your readings like?
What medication are you on for your blood pressure as there are some similar side effects from some of them.
It could be that you may be coming down with a virus or cold.
There are a few possibilities so if you could give us a few more answers we may be able to help you. We are not capable of diagnosis but other members may have experienced how you are feeling.
Hope this helps,
Catherine.

Hi there,

have you got any blood sugar readings? I found that metformin can make you feel icky just on its own and when I started on it, had a few gastric episodes. Also I felt a bit dizzy when my blood sugars were coming down quite fast. Are you taking your tablets always with a meal? That should reduce metformin related side effects a lot. I found though that my appetite has reduced and sometimes I have to force myself to have something to eat.

But the dizziness may also have something to do with high blood pressure. Are you medication for that? If the spells continue, go and see your doctor but I would say it is quite normal to feel off periodically before your condition balances out. If you are worried though orthe symptoms worsen, go and see your doctor asap.

Hi Darlodan, i get palpatations after taking metformin. I'v been on it 3 weeks too. It dosn't last long though. Think it take time for the body to ajust to the drug and a new diet. Hope your doin low carb its fantastic for loosing weight and having some control over your body.

Hope things settle down for you.

Dee

I'd get back to your doctor, but it might be a good plan to do some intensive testing first and take the results with you. Palpitations may have many causes and may be pretty benign (my late father had them for many years and lived into his eighties) but any such change needs investigating.

They can be a result of hypos or near hypos if you're not used to normal BG numbers, could be drinking too much coffee, could be many other things which a proper investigation should uncover

hi im new here and read your msg ,doctors thought to begin with that l was type 2 ,l was started on metformin 500mgs 4 tablets per day ,l had to take 1 tablet for a week then 2 for a week then so forth until l was taking 4 in a day .they done it that way because my nurse said they are harsh on the stomach til your body gets used to them . l felt terrible for weeks and had most of the symptoms you have .im also on medication for high blood pressure .it does settle down it can just take time ,im now on 5 injections of insulin a day and still have to take metformin ,chin up im sure it will settle soon take care x
