Can Anyone Help Me Stop Scratching?

As some of you will know, I had an Angiogram almost 2 weeks ago and I've apparently had an allergic reaction to the dye that was used. I'm covered in an excema? type rash all over my body and it is sooooo itchy it's driving me nuts. I've had Clobetasone cream prescribed, along with an anti hystamine and given some moisturising cream as well, but nothing is working. The itch is still there and I could rip myself to shreds. Also, how long is this likely to go on for? Please, has anyone any expreience of this ?
 
Sorry to hear of this, sounds awful what you are going though, suggest go back to gp, you maybe able to have an injection to help,get the correct meds into the blood stream faster, to calm down the reaction you have described....if it gets go worse or no improvement ....a and e is an option

Well thanks, but my doc's walls are full of posters saying A&E is only for accidents and emergencies. I wouldn't dare class myself as an emergency, I have long nails, but I don't think I'm able to open an artery with them, just so I could class myself as an emergency LOL.

Really just wondered if there were any old wives remedies? Thanks Kat. x
 
If you are having an allergic reation, you need help. Also the reaction needs to be on your medical records. If you encounter the same substances again, the reaction is likely to be worse. See your GP. In the meantime, taking a hayfevrer relief antihistamine can probably make you more comfortable. Nevertheless, your GP should see this.

Yes I've been to the docs, he's prescribed me the cream and pills, and asked me what was used. As I didn't know, he said he'd write to the hospital as that information does need to go on my records for next time. You can imagine what I said with regards to there being a next time!! Thanks Hana x
 
Try E45 Itch Relief Cream (NOT E45 moisturiser.. that's not the same..) I have very thin and tender skin on my lower legs as a result of a long-standing bout of cellulitis a few years ago. I have to be extremely careful not to knock them, as they take ages to heal. And occasionally I get this unbearable itch that I dare not scratch!. I tried various things, but the E45 Itch Relief Cream is the most effective I've tried. It usually takes a couple of applications to take effect (recommended to apply twice daily.) You never know... it might work for you, too. Fingers crossed....
 
Oh thank you very much for the suggestion, I'll get some as soon as the shop opens in the morning!! I'll let you know if it worked. x
 
i have bad allergies and use zirtex anti histamines and eurax cream

I've used Eurax too for bad itching - it works well for me and is fairly long lasting.

Itching is awful so I hope you get it sorted soon.

If it is any consolation, my partner has had a couple of nasty allergic itchy skin reactions (cause unknown).

Each time, the reaction started to die down slightly on day 3, and had virtually gone by day 6.

Hoping that timescale gives you hope!

Well thanks for that, it must be awful to not know why you're having a nasty allergic itchy skin reaction. At least I know what has caused mine, but it's 2 weeks today since I was in hospital, so I'm afraid this ****** is going to go on a good while yet, looking at the state of me!
Hope your partner can try some of the creams being suggested by the kind people here to see if they help at all. Thanks again. x
 
All set to go to the chemist and I get an e-mail saying a parcel will be delivered this morning!! I wouldn't care, but it's not for me. So the creams I was going to get this morning will have to wait 'till this afternoon. Oh! Haven't I suffered enough!!! xx
 
Not the same as your problem but I get bitten often and itch for England and the only thing that helps is lavender oil ,but I havent tried some of the other suggestions here but maybe it may be helpful You have my sympathy I have made myself bleed sometimes ARRGGH

Thanks for that Carol. I didn't make it to the shops this afternoon, I fell asleep. I think it has affected my well being too, as I'm probably loosing sleep throughout the night and I don't seem to have much energy during the day. Anyway, the upshot is I didn't manage to do the 20 mile round trip to the shops for the suggested creams, but I do have some lavender oil in my box, so I'll give that a go right now. Yes, I think I've also come close to making myself bleed, it's bloody painful isn't it! I don't know how you live with it. Thanks again Hon x
 
Hi Carol I've put lavender oil on my arms, neat? and it does seem to have taken away the intense itchiness. Thanks. I've just had a good look at my bod and the rash is getting worse on my bottom half, as if it's working it's way down my body. I've even got it going on my feet! It was all over initially, but it's getting to look really bad on my legs and tummy now, it's a good job I've cancelled my nudist beach holiday for Easter!!! xx
 
Really people do,go to a and e with problems you are experiencing, and get treatment as well .....
Any luck with an emergency gp appointment ...... hope you get some relief soon ....best wishes Kat
