The answer, surely, is that we should restrict them sufficiently in order to normalise blood sugars and thereby minimise risk of complications. We all realise that probably means something different to each of us. It also means a bit of a shift of emphasis on the part of the NHS. Rather than eating the same old way and upping the meds to get by, instead, eating better and reducing the meds. Perhaps even stopping the meds altogether. Shades of grey it certainly is, but the priciple should be blindingly obvious. It can be done!
