Just musing on a previous thread on Vegans, who don't eat anything with a face.
[Or (to quote the Simpsons) Level 4 Vegans who don't eat anything which casts a shadow.]
Apart from the lateral thought that Mr. Potato Face must cause them some angst, I wondered if there was a similar rule for T2 diabetics.
So perhaps don't eat anything derived from a grain - or at least don't eat anything with wheat in.
Cutting out wheat does away with bread, cakes, pasta, pizza, pastry - all things which can cause some T2s problems.
Also Weetabix and Shredded Wheat.
If you also cut out white root vegetables this gets rid of potatoes and parsnips which are the main offenders (but can cut out celeriac which is supposed to be pretty good for you).
How about root vegetables beginning with 'P'?
So how about this for an approach:
(1) No sugar and sweeties
(2) No wheat
(3) No root vegetables beginning with 'P'.
This will not be a final solution, but is perhaps a simple 3 point plan which can get the newbie onto an eating strategy which will help stabilise BG levels.
After that, you get testing and work out what your body responds to best.
Oh, and (2) might be "no grain" because oats in porage and muesli can cause problems to some, but that could come under fine tuning.
Really, most newbies (and I remember when I was a newbie) get horribly confused because a healthy diet for a non-diabetic is not necessarily a healthy diet for a T2 diabetic.
So a quick blast on the LGC 3 point plan may be a starting point. 8)
Hope this helps
