Hi Lola, it can take a while to get fully adjusted to the new regimes.

With big changes like this, it's common to have a period where you're getting the hang of things and then all of a sudden it feels like all the hard work is being undone.

If we miss an injection it can take hours for the body to get back into it's proper rhythm so by dedicating some more time to your diabetes, you will actually find you end up saving time.

For us with type 1, good diabetes control ends up being the foundation we need to build our life around. Until I got my diabetes under control a few years back, life was very difficult to hold together. So these days, if things are starting to go adrift, I always make the diabetes the priority as this always helps to make the other things in my life better.

Do you know why injecting while you're out is an issue? When I was younger I didn't like injecting in public but I became more confident with this as an adult.

I'm 17 and have had type 1 since I was 3 so yeah its super annoying having to remember to take your insulin on time. Have you thought about going on the pump? I live in the states so i don't know how it works where you live, but using the pump is so much better, it makes a big difference with good control. Thats a good idea though, setting your phone to remind you, but with the pump it basically looks like a cellphone and you keep it in your pocket and just push a few buttons and its all done.
Your nurse is right skipping doses is super bad!! And about the boy situations, yeah that sucks as a teenage girl I know exactly how youre feeling, boys make us go crazyyy :crazy: but what I always think about if I feel a certain way is that its not worth it to let someone else have a negative effect on your health. Hope you're doing better!

You could be stressing over things with new guy you like a lot ?
Both stress and missed insulin shots will affect your body and blood sugar levels.
You need to look after your body at the moment... Put yourself 'first ' also . . . :thumbup:
Could you talk to someone about your feelings over new guy???
Are you afraid if you inject in public and not at home, you would be veiwed differently?
Try talking these things through with a really close trusted friend or family member...
Use your mobile? to set times to do insulin shots , I do this as I have a terrible memory!

If you haven't done so already, then make sure that your school/college/university knows about your diabetes. They will have 'exceptional circumstances' criteria that kick in when someone is diagnosed with a condition like this, and you should be able to get some help with extended deadlines etc. That should help to relieve at least some of the stress. It is the institution's job to make sure that your duties as a student do not interfere with your injecting regime. DO NOT worry about making a fuss. Good luck!

Hi, I was diagnosed when i was 20-ish aswell and did myself no favours cos i didnt give the diabetes the attention i should have. My first HbA1 was 18....and for years my insulin stayed in the house. I have since learned over the years that when i keep good control of my Blood Sugar, i feel ALOT better. I now carry my insulin and my meter everywhere with me in my handbag. People dont mind when they know what you are dealing with and no-one has taken offence at me injecting infront of them (although i usually would say 'does anyone mind?'). I also ran out of insulin one weekend and used my cousins fast acting stuff when my sugar went high, but i ended up in hospital almost dead. It is extremely important that we dont miss our medication. Once was enough for me!! :cry: As far as im aware we need insulin in our body covering every hour of the day. Sometimes i just say im going to the toilet when its time for injecting and go do my thing in the toilet...especially if out in hotels, restaurants etc. I dont really have anything to say about the boy situation apart from thank goodness im a bit older now . Hope you manage to work something out.

i always use mine as an alarm.
I'm a grandma on diet and minimal Metformin, but carry my phone and use it for all kinds of reminders.

how can you care more about a guy than about yourself ???as far as im concern you are old enough to understand that your life dependes on your insulin and your diet,that the fact that you have hands,arms,legs,feet,VISION, LIFE should be more important to you then anything in the world... i have a 12 years old daughter who's diabetic type 1 since she was 5 years old...i cant understand the stupid things that she does to her diabetes... whats that??? forget to give insulin??? glucose is high so lets have loooooaaaads of carbs??? machine says you have 20 and you give insulin for 10??? what is wrong with you guys??? Diabetes is something that affects the all family, in my case more the mum of course, im going crazy trying to help my daughter and on my back all that she does is messing around with her desiease??? I really cant understand you's... you've been diagnosed last february, instead of thinking about a guy why dont you think about organising youself??? if you keep treating yourself like that be sure that you won't survive that long to have a guy at all... love yourself, treat youself, be responseable for yourself and you'll see that soon enough you will have someone there to help you becoz he cares for you, becoz you show him that you want to live so u fight every single day for it. dont do stupid things to you...all you have to do is give a shot to yourself and you can live a normal life...many children are right now stuck on a wheelchair and there's no shot in the world that can make that stand up, run, live life to the fullest like you can.

I'm a T2 so I'm not having to inject but if I was ... I would make that MY PRIORITY ... before dealing with children, studies or boyfriends ... MY INSULIN WOULD BE MY PRIORITY ... because without seeing to my own needs first I wouldn't be able to deal with children, studies or boyfriends. It's that simple. And it's not being selfish to PUT YOURSELF AND YOUR OWN NEEDS FIRST - IT'S OF PARAMOUNT IMPORTANCE THAT YOU DO.

As others have advised, set your phone and when it's insulin time think ... IT'S INSULIN TIME ... and JUST DO IT ... whatever else you're doing at the time CAN BE INTERRUPTED FOR A FEW MINUTES.

I was in a cafe the other day sitting opposite a very trim looking young man who injected himself while having his coffee. It took less than 2 mins for him to do it from getting the injector out of his bag, injecting and putting it back again. It was done in a very matter of fact way which didn't attract any attention at all and that was it.

YOU MATTER ... so start acting like you matter.
