Can't sleep.

T2.no meds except for BP. Have been v stressed at work. BP went up and doc signed me off and upped my BP meds. Last HBa1c 31, but due a retest in 2 weeks. Having difficulty sleeping. Exercise hasn't worked. Up yesterday at 8am. Bed at 11. Couldn't sleep so tried reading. Same at 12. Then 4am. Dozed off and on until 9, but no quality sleep. Fasting blood this am 5.5. Any ideas/suggestions?

Sorry you are having trouble sleeping, I have raging insomnia and often get no more than 4 restless hours so I can sympathise. I guess it could be stress I do that triggers mine. Luckily since being diagnosed T2 and changing my diet my sleep has improved a bit.
Sorry I can't be of more help.
 
Generally I need a snack before bed to sleep like a spoonful of almond or peanut butter. I don't like to have to eat before bed but I like to sleep more
 
As an experienced insomniac I've developed strategies that works for me.

First thing is stop thinking. This can be done in a number of ways. My two favourites are counting backwards from 99 and reciting rhymes in my head, nursery rhymes and such.

Sometimes I pretend to be on a ship or a night train, going somewhere.

Second thing is to start breathing as if you actually were asleep. If I've managed to relax and stop thinking the breathing thing works like a charm.
