I had to speak to my insurance company about 2 weeks ago. When I spoke to them they asked what was wrong with me as I declared I had a DVLA declared illness. When I told them that I had diabetes my insurance premium went up by £3.75 per month. I was under the impression insurance companies wasn't allowed to do this. Being as this has happened to me how many other diabetics has this happened to?
It made no difference at all to my car insurance when I informed them. Didn't really sound that interested, just said they would make a note of it. Time to get another meerkat methinks!
You could challenge it, as they are not allowed to load for a disability. But, for such a low amount, they could say it's an admin cost to alter your policy details. It's worth enquiring as to how the charge was made.
For the record, I have never been charged. One company did say they should charge for the admin, but waived it, as "nobody wants to be diagnosed diabetic, so they wouldn't charge me as it wasn't a change you want to make"
