Carb counting ratios

Thanks Spiker, I had wondered about the Levemir but still doing as my DSN instructed at diagnosis. How would you go about splitting it to twice daily?
As a starting point just split it 50/50 and take it 12 hrs apart. Then adjust each dose up or down from there based on your BG readings.

Often people are given single dose Levemir shortly after diagnosis when they still have some insulin activity. There is often poor follow up, alas.

Thanks Spiker, that makes sense and sounds simple enough. I'll also run it past my DSN but in the end it has to be trial and error and adjust up or down as you say. Cheers.

On the day you split, you may see some odd results but just correct with quick acting insulin if needed, and give it a couple of days to settle down before you make any more adjustments to the Levemir.

I've had type 1 for 48 years and mine is 1 i.u.: 11, though I am thinking of changing that to 1:12 as my insulin resistance is going down right now.

Hi. I'm also carb counting using the Insulinx meter. You can set different ratios by time of day and find that 2u to 10g is needed morning and lunch to combat the highs I was having late afternoon. Then anything after 4pm I reduce to 1u to every 10g.

Each person is different. Just experiment and see what works. If the results are good then sorted. If not try something else. Hope this helps.

Mike.
