Hi all,
I am fairly new to all this ( diagnosed last week) and came away from my initial appointment with minimal information (despite going in with lots of questions), there was not enough time to answer them.

I have read a lot about carb counting being the secret to good management, however I was wondering how people do it? (Sorry if I sounded dumb)
Do you use an app to work out your intake? If so which would you recommend? Or do you read labels and manually calculate?

I am currently on an increasing dose of Metformin, and 10mg Dapagliflozin once a day, and the advice does not advise low carb diet, so I am trying to figure out how to balance this out.

I have read a lot of posts that recommend low carb is best, but obviously not an option on medication.

Any other Dapagliflozin takers advise?

As always, thanks for any advice. Please remember I am new & learning!

Thanks.

I am taking Dapa. The nature of it requires a certain amount - we aren't told how much - of carbs need to be eaten to avoid ketoacidosis. When I was first put on this medication - for my heart - I wasn't told this, even though the staff knew I was on a keto diet, though whether they knew what that was, I don't know. SO when I was discharged, went home and looked up my meds, I asked my GP, who was unconcerned. That put me at months of keto and on Dapa. Theoretically rather dangerous. Then I had my appointment with DN who was very concerned, and I agreed to eat more carbs. However, I don't know how many would be enough, and it appears nobody else has any idea either. SO I eat my keto diet and add some carbs. Today those carbs were from half a tub of hummus and a carrot. My blood glucose has gone up one point on a fingertip test, but I won't know until I have my next HB1aC what that'll do with my long-term bloods. I don't suppose you'll find that helpful, but that's how I'm muddling through.

If you'd like to know what I eat, details are on the low-carb thread.
