I am in Scotland and attend Western general every 6 months for my care. They organise my eye exams and diets but am wondering what I can expect re someone caring for my feet. I go to a chiropodist and get nails trimmed etc but would like someone to look at the bone that appears to have grown round the back of my heel. Would that be my GP or should I ask doc at the Hospital?

Hiya,

My diabetes team do a quick check of my feet once a year - this involves checking my pulse on the foot and poking me with some sort of rubber pin. Any problems outside of this I would suggest you talk to your GP or chiropodist.

Hello,

You can ask your GP to have a look, or ask him/her to refer you to a podiatrist/chriopodist.

You say your seeing a chiropodist - are they health profession council registered if so they will be able to help you.

Some people get confused between professional Podiatrist/Chiropodist and Foot Health Practitioners. The difference is HPC registered Chiropodist/Podiatrist complete 3yr full time degree and can be employed in the NHS.
Foot health Practitioners complete a correspondence course and short practical training cannot work in the NHS and cannot use the legally protected titles of Chiropodist / Podiatrist.

To check go to this website www.hpccheck.org enter the surname and select chiropodist/podiatrist and if they are qualified their details will be displayed, if not then they are not a qualified chiropodist/podiatrist.

Hope that makes sense
