Cataract operation ?

Hi cataract operation coming up on Monday a bit apprehensive needles etc,. Especially eyes. Anything to look out for post op apart from trying to keep a grip on my bg's. Thanks
 
Hi, again. Just seen in diabetes complications thread a question on eye ops.was not to good for my apprehension But thanks if anyone does respond here.
 
I had my natural eye lens taken out and replaced for sight reasons op is same as cataract op, was completely painless, was given antibiotic drops and artificial tears to use for 5 weeks,
 
Had both eyes done(not at ame time) and it is nothing to worry about at all,yes you are saying"that's what he says" but honestly it is NOTHING AT ALL, just make sure you wear the eye patch at night when asleep and take care if it's windy you don't a bit of dirt in it, you'll see I'm right after you have had it done.
 
Nothing to add but to say all the best. I have the same op on for Tuesday and am feeling tense (have never been in hospital - though it's only an in out in a day thing). How do they stop you from moving/blinking etc?
 
It's quite painless, they anaesthetise the eye so you don't feel a thing and it's over in no time, post-surgery I had to wear a eye patch over the eye (can't remember for how long, may have been 1 or 2 days) and had to administer drops for 4-5 weeks, once you get it done you'll soon see an improvement in your vision. Good luck and hope all goes well.

Like everyone else said 'nothing to worry about', it's over in no time & I would rather have Cattaract op than have a tooth out, easy peasy. I had to wear the patch for I think five nights and put drops in, the difference in sight was immediate & I've had both done. Depends where you sit on the list as to how long you're there, I was first on the list for one 9am and was back home making a cuppa by 10.55 you will be fine
 
Yes the others are right there really is nothing to worry about. I had both eyes done last year four months between them. You don't feel any pain at all but you do have to lay perfectly still for the 20/30 minutes the op takes. You wear a plastic eye patch at night for about 7 days and eye drops for about 4/ 5 weeks until you have the final check up You will be back on here after you have had yours done telling us how right we were. Good luck

Because your eye is anaesthetised you can't blink Good luck with yours it really is nothing to worry about
 
Hi I understand your worry , I was worried sick but you know what it's nothing to worry about .
I had mine done a couple of years ago and after it I would get the other one done tomorrow if I have to.
They will cover your good eye and freeze the eye you are having done and then all you can see are colours like rainbows.
After it's over it takes a few hours or more for vision to return but you will have a patch on.

Have had both my eyes done my second one last year .Neither of them were painful never felt a thing. Please try not to worry.
 
Had mine done, one in November and the other in December and it really does not hurt at all. Remember to take something to eat afterwards, my hospital would not let me leave until I had something and the choice was biscuits or a white bread sandwich (I ate the filling, tuna). Great for a diabetic.

Hi John,
please do not worry about cataract surgery. Plenty of dilation and local anaesthetic drops are put in your almost to the state the eye needs a lifebelt
You will not feel a thing. I can vouch for this as had both eyes done. Just make sure you do exactly as you are told regarding putting the drops in after the op and you will be fine.
 
Hi again, had the operation on Tuesday today is Friday. Still a little sore but not bad. The operation as everyone mentioned is a doddle and you do not feel or see a thing, it was all over in minutes. Have worn glasses all my life but now walking around without them and have what you can say must be perfect vision in the eye. Can not wait for the other to be done because I will need reading glasses. But for those about to have a cataract op, do not have any worries in my brief experience to date. Just having to put the drops in for month. And next consultation will be in March.
 
Great résult and you see we were all telling the truth, next time you see a similar post to your original you will be able to reassure someone else, it really is amazing surgery. I used to have driving, reading and tv/computer glasses now I only need readers. Well done, take care of the eye
 
Fantastic so pleased for you.
Just as a suggestion where some shades of sorts if not prescription lenses when you go out so the wind doesn't make your eye sore.

really pleased it went well ... and thank you for the thread! just been told this morning i need to get mine done and am a little worried ... mum had hers done 30 odd years ago and it caused no end of problems for the rest of her life.. it does sound like its all much more straight forward now so its good to hear all the positive experiences ... they're not causing me much of a problem at the moment, but i'm told its just going to get worse so i figure i should get on with it.. i am really short sighted (- 8) so would be great to get rid of the thick specs .. might even have to find a picture of penfold without his specs if it goes to plan!
