Cataract surgery today - advice please.

That's rather fabulous Spiker. No need for me to mega up the font then?

It seems like so many of our now "routine" ops are life-changers; cataracts, hip and knee replacements, stents and so on. We're lucky to be living in the age we are.
 
When I do look around with the "new" eye, the vision is amazing!

By the way I got the answer to my own OP from the consultant (who was great, answered all my questions and concerns):

The machine they use to measure your eye for the right lens isn't interested in your focus at all. It just moves your eye around and that causes rapid changes in your focus while it's measuring. What they do is just measure the dimensions of your eye so they know what lens shape will restore it to a "perfect" shape (zero diopter). Unlike an optician fitting lenses, they don't make any use at all of the patient's perceived focus.
 
I did some walking around this afternoon with the patch off and strong sunglasses on. The new vision in the operated eye is incredible. It's still slightly painful and I am still having to watch BG closely. But my eyesight is great now. When I compare the one eye to the other it's like looking through a murky grey filter. Everyone's skin tone looks brighter and all the colours are much brighter. It's marvellous!

What's your reading vision like ? I seem to remember some time ago that you were having lenses that meant you wouldn't need reading glasses ?

My very close range vision, which was ridiculously excellent, is now screwed. But c'est la vie. So I will need reading glasses now just to text on my phone. But it should stop me trying to park my car in the bakery section of Morrison's.

But reading glasses are ACE!

I was delighted when I started needing them.

You can peer over the rims at insignificant people who interrupt your important work.
You can casually push them up while deciding what to say (side or middle of frame??? - I had to practice with a mirror)
You can accessorise them to outfits.
You can store them in your cleavage.
You can distract people by storing them in your cleavage.
You can phaff with cleaning them when considering a question.
You can delicately nibble the arms.
You can wave them around for dramatic effect.

Honestly, I don't know how I ever managed without them!

We ALL have a cleavage, Hon. It's just that not all cleavages are created equal.
 
I may have to forgo the cleavage-related benefits (except at weekends) but I look forward to enjoying the others very soon.
 
Oh , and I imagine most people would be distracted by your storing them in your cleavage Don't they object ?

Well don't go all silly and think you need to pay for a solid gold pair from an optician.

My myriad pairs cost an average of £2.50/pair from Boots, Tescos, Superdrug, £1 shops and random pharmacies.

Makes it less heartbreaking when you sit on them. Or drop them. Or the dog eats them. Or you need a stronger prescription. Or the cleavage swallows them.
 
Don't forget wearing them as a hairband! I always make sure any new glasses I get suit not only my face, but also my hairstyle! LOL.

I can`t see anything at all from tears. Haven't laughed this much in a month and a half!

Can see why I should use contact lenses more often instead of my usual glasses. It is because with lenses I occasionally need READING GLASSES! And I do have cleavage to put them in.

Post-surgery has meant I'm long-sighted in one eye and short-sighted in the other
 
@Spiker,
when my FiL had his done, not only did his vision improve but also his colour sense so there was a flurry of repainting ensued to remove the naff colour choices!
 
if you think it's good now, wait a couple of weeks for the blurring to go completely
