Hi I have been informed that the Government is only funding cataract surgery on one eye, does that mean that although I have Type 2 Diabetes that I will have to pay for the other eye to have the cataract removed.

Thank you, I know it is between £2000 and £4000 per eye depending on what type of lens is required, will wait and see what the Consultant says, but appreciate your reply.
Whereabouts are you? If you are in England, the criteria for funding cataract surgery varies as it is decided by the local CCG. You can probably find the policy by googling the name of your CCG and the words funding, cataract and surgery. For example, this is the policy for Hounslow CCG:- https://www.hounslowccg.nhs.uk/media/40028/08-Cataract-Surgery-V33.pdf
Funding should be available for cataract surgery in the second eye if the cataract is interfering with the ability of the eye screening test to detect retinopathy.
