Finding MP's who happen to be diabetic may be a better idea!!

Still won't work. It's likely that around the same percentage of MPs have diabetes as the general population, around 5%. There are plenty of other groups crying out for help, too. I'm unlucky enough to suffer from asthma as well as diabetes, and I can assure you all that there's a lot of resentment in the asthmatic camp over the fact that diabetics qualify for free prescriptions while asthmatics don't. Justifiably so in my opinion.

I pay £25 for 50 strips as my GP does not offer them to type 2's due to PCT's policies, so I buy them from an online pharmacy.

Would be good however if they were cheaper

And they probably include their test strips on their expenses claims anyway so they won't be bothered! :evil:

More seriously, although I certainly appreciate being exempt from prescription charges, I understand that diabetics were originally exempted because many were re-using needles to save money and harming themselves. I often feel slightly uncomfortable that I recieve free prescriptions for non-diabetes related items, while others with similarly unpleasant illnesses do not.

Perhaps we should all move to Wales!

Yep, it's certainly time for a shake-up of the Barnett Formula, but I can't see this government doing it. They'd lose even more seats than they're already going to!

I don't qualify for free prescriptions because my doctor has not bothered to prescribe me anything for diabetes (apart from startch LOL) and the BP and Cholesterol stuff he was trying to force on me (which I have not taken him up on) apparently don't count! I am also mildly asthmatic, diagnosed finally 2009 - its not been a good year. So I already have to pay out for two lots of inhalers for that , I also have to other items so that so far is approx £30 worth a month.

I have bought testing strips on line there quite a few on-line chemists springing up so worth doing a google search and comparing prices, I have used two different on-line chemistsso far who seemed pretty good.

Don't get me started on the freebies in Scotland and Wales - anyone know if they can get strips on the NHS in Wales and Scotland or does the not so NICE guidlines extend everywhere? :roll:
