hello, I have been looking for some advise.
My son is 9 in november and has always been a handful. But reading about diabetes is starting to add up.
My father has t2 and so has his brother and his mother, I my maternal side has it as well, and so does my husbands side of the family, so we have a strong genetic link. I have watched my son get worse (behaviour wise) at school and at home, mornings are bad about 30minutes after eating, usually toast and butter he has a mad moment like a hit of drugs and is uncontrollable. And he has the same at school, usually geting told off after lunch.
Putting two and two together and getting 5 we have looked at his reads on my dads blood monitor.
last night 7.6
first thing today 5.8 (then having toast butter)
Did 45 minutes later 5.4
as we were about to leave he had a mad moment so did another read 4.8
Looking back three years ago he had a floppy fit after lunch and took 4 hours to come back, he gets headaches and shuts down (he will lie down and sometimes he is difficult to rouse). He has had a smell on his breath, and he drinks water (he never used to drink water). He seems to have ups and downs, after school he is starving and is a bag of bones really skinny and never puts on weight, and he is itchy at times, with very dry skin.. He has cream for exema.
Am I jumping to the wrong conclusions? or could he have the start of diabetes?.

Whatever it is needs checking by a doctor

i would get him to a dr if he was my child,it could be any of many things and he certainly needs checking out

Thanks for the advise.

Have done his blood again, he has been at the zoo all day had lunch at 1pm, blood at 4.30 was 7.0, will go back to mums after supper and see what the result is.

Hi jamesey,

I'm afraid it's beyond us to give any kind of diagnosis on the forum. The only appropriate advice would be to have a doctor take a look at his symptoms. If his diagnosis reveals anything we can help with we'll be very glad to spport you.

All the best, and good luck,

fergus

Thank you fergus,

We have done blood again at 9.00 and it is 7.4, the pattern seems to be high pm and normal to low am.
doing this tomrrow so that the doctor can see that his sugar levels move quiet a lot. but doing am, before and after breakfast, lunch before and after and pm before and after.
