My doctor told me my gloucose reading was 60 and she asked me what I thought about taking a tablet for it, l said that she was the doctor so what did she think, so she prescribed " Sukkarto, 50mg " On the leaflet which came with the tablets it tells me not to drink alcohol, now I regret not refusing the tablet, I am not an alcoholic but I do like a drink, Do you think I should forget the drink or the tablet! Kind Regards

Sukkarto isn't a name I'm familiar with, but having looked it up, it appears to be a generic variant of Metformin. Many, many people on this forum take Metformin (I never have). I also believe many people consume alcohol whilst taking Metformin.
I'm sure someone else will respond soon. Others may have been put a little bit off balance by the unfamiliar generic name.
Interesting occupation there Eijack. Do you specialise in anything in particular?
Acceptance of health treatment claims that are not adequately supported by evidence. I dislike it when people sell ineffective and even harmful alternative health products to exploit the desperation of people with chronic illness.
I've had no problems having the odd drink while on metformin. The package insert info at drugs.com says to avoid alcohol because it lowers blood sugar and increases the risk of lactic acidosis. If concerned about blood sugar, you can always use your home meter to check levels. According to Blood Sugar 101 the risk of lactic acidosis is no higher when taking metformin, and I think this is a case of manufacturers having to mention the risk to cover themselves. Thanks everyone, I feel a lot better about taking the tablet,
Andbreathe asked about my job, well I've worked on all types of ships but yachts are my favourite.
