Hi @Shortie13green and welcome to the forum. @Antje77 is correct in that I had Chronic Kidney Disease from 1973-2013. I had already had Type1 for 12 years when CKD first showed up. As you can see mine lasted for 40 years and reached critical levels in 2012, which put me on the list for a kidney/pancreas transplant. I escaped dialysis by 8 days having received donor organs on 13th August 2013. Diabetes from 1959 caused many problems owing to basic knowledge and primitive treatment with no blood glucose tests until 1979. Even though I had had proteinuria for six years, glucometers and being read the riot act allowed me to drastically change my regime, achieving a near normal HbA1c (average blood glucose reading over a period of 3 months). I was on hypertensive drugs and in the early 2000's I was put on phosphate binders.It was predicted my kidneys would pack up by 2005. I cannot stress enough how tight control slowed this disease down. If there is anything else you would like to know,I will do my best to answer it. Wishing you the best of luck.

A bit about me might help here. I'm now 61,have had diabetes since 1973. Over the years I have struggled with MDI and HB1AC levels forever. Usually 85+ I have however had a full and varied life, and lived in various parts of the UK. I am also really short, autistic, and also have arthritis, hayfever and dyspraxia. So please forgive slowness of typing or errors. I am doing palliative care pathway for the kidneys as I have side effects from the drugs.
Last Oct I was given a 5 year life expectancy by the NHS. Having tried all sorts to get better results, I asked for Omnipod 5. I told there was a 2 year waiting list to even be considered.
Very long story short, I am using my lifetime savings to pay for this. In 2 months my weekly results are already under 7. My time in range is over 85%.
But my literally overwhelmingly problem is tiredness. I need to sleep 10 to 12 hours per day.

Not since 2013 @Shortie13green , but tiredness was certainly overwhelming. Could the drugs also cause tiredness? Congratulations on achieving what you have already and commiserations for your plight. Do you see the head of the Diabetes Department? If not, I would suggest contacting them directly. Let us know how you get on.
