Good morning just another question I am thinking of purchasing another BG meter as I am not sure if my SDcodefree is the most accurate are there other options or shall I stick with the SDcodefree

Hi! Have a read of this regarding coding: http://www.diabetes.co.uk/diabetes_care/the-importance-of-coding.html
http://www.diabetes.co.uk/diabetes_care/the-importance-of-coding.html
At one time each batch of test strips for all or most meters then avaiable were coded and each new pack needed to be calibrated against the meter using this code, but this now no longer applies as far as I know. The Codefree brand name refers to this, but the meter is probably no better or worse than other meters as they all have to work within a specific accuracy range, and they are mainly all "code free" now. The major advantage of the Codefree is the low price of the test strips - if you opt for another brand, you'll be paying far more (often 3-4 times as much) for them.

It basically comes down to what you feel you need that the Codefree may be lacking, so you need to decide what your priorities and preferences are and decide accordingly. Our main diabetes.co.uk site has a meter guide that you can look at, Amazon can often help via buyer reviews of products, and the manufacturers web sites will usually provide detailed data for all of their current products.

The SD meter is the cheapest to use, and I use one myself. But I am not happy with the results it gives. My meter may be a rogue one, but I see others commenting on similar probs with theirs. Mine has always read higher than my other meters, and I get quite erratic results at times. I would not myself use the SD results to base any of my decisions on. I have just changed to the Caresense Dual from Spirit Healthcare, and I find it to be a good meter that does ketones as well (which the SD does not) the strips are a bit more expensive than the SD, but not atmospheric (approx £9.50 per 50 strips Vat Free price.)

The advice to check the Amazon reviews is sound, but remember these can be spammed and sometimes the reviews can be fake. Generally I think they now take steps to ensure that reviewers are also purchasers. Personally I go straight to the 2 star reviews since it is less likely to be faked from either point of view

I tend to look at the distribution of stars too - a higher number below three is likely to indicate a higher degree of dissatisfaction. But the most useful reviews will give a good idea of a product's functionatily/usability whether good or bad.

Hi @wiseowl_123
I had another BG meter but lancets and strips cost a fortune. Found the Forum and followed the advice on here, bought an SD and have not looked back - reliably accurate for me and low maintenance!
