I don't think it harms them much. It has caffeine in it which is a diuretic so if you pee a lot now you could pee even more. If that becomes a problem then you can get decaf.

There are regular scientific papers about coffee being good/bad etc. I drink about 10 mugs of 'full fat' coffee a day and it doesn't seem to affect my bGs. I also sleep like a top. No 'scientist' will ever convince me I can't sleep after coffee.! :mrgreen:

For the attention of our friends 'elsewhere' who are admitting defeat by copying my tips to control their diabetes ....

My food today was ...

Breakfast - Semi-Skimmed Milk, Banana, Oats
Lunch (sandwich) - Mayo, Ham, Cucumber Slices, Tomato, Wholemeal Bread
Dinner - Cauliflower, 2 sausages, Stilton, Butter, Fresh Milk Semi-Skimmed, Chips
Snacks - 2 apples, 6 Wholewheat Crackers, Brussels Pate
10 mugs fresh brewed coffee

Total carbs 245g, daily bG 6.0 ... perfect. Now for some dark chocolate.

The milk in the latte is bad bad bad

I used to be in denial having three buckets of Starbucks latte a day and avoiding testing my BS but I could feel the tingling in my cheeks that told me they were too high

Milk sends my levels all over but mostly in an upwards direction!

I used to think that coffee was fine. And I wanted to think that coffee was fine. But unfortunately, I think it is said to interfere with Blood Sugars ( raising ).

I suppose it is something you could test, just entirely on its own, to see what the result is.

in the excellent book Think Like A Pancreas, coffee is mentioned as a raiser of blood sugar.

Of course, it depends on quantities and individuals.

I was a committed coffee drinker. I am now on de caff mainly and an occasional treat of rocket fuel.

I have a cup of hot semi-skimmed milk every evening before bed.
Only tested a couple of times and it didn't seem to affect me much.
Maybe I'm just lucky but I'll test again.

Well eggs send my BS to the moon so maybe we all have a food that effects us that way!!! Like having diabetes isn't hard enough!!

I can't believe how much my caffeine habit has come down since my diagnosis. I used to like my coffee, but pre-diagnosis it had just gone crazy.

I was drinking a large caffetiere at breakfast, another mid-morning, lunchtime pot of espresso, afternoon cafetiere and more espresso in the evening. I was feeling wired all the time from the high BG I think, but knackered as well and the coffee was just not touching it.

Back to a much healthier morning caffetiere and lunchtime espresso now, and no obvious effect on BG, my mid-morning levels don't seem to be suffering from it.
