Just wondered if anyone knew what could be done with the numerous blood glucose meters we have acquired over the years and no longer use :?:

Unless they are in the original packaging and are unopened then I don't think you can do much with them, there are charities that take unwanted equipment but not when they have been used, hopefully someone else may know of a organisation that may take them off your hands.

I was thinking on the same lines copepod (IDDT) but sure they are strict on the equipment being unused, I suppose there's no harm in contacting them though.

What about the manufacturers? I have just received a free upgrade meter from Abbott and they have sent me an envelope to return my old one.
(I haven't sent it back though as I want a spare one)

If you have a DACE in your area
they would appreciate the meters they employ disabled people to do repairs refurbs and other things on all sorts of items .Maybe you have one in your area .

Don't know if your surgery would take them back to hand out to the newly diagnosed?
I suspect that all they would need was a check against a control solution to confirm that they were still reading O.K.

Could be that the manufacturers subtly discourage reuse by giving new freebies to the HCPs to ensure that there is a constant demand for their latest test strips etc.

Also, it may be that meters over 3-5 years old are previous generation technology and should be replaced anyway.

Looked at the link, no mention of meters but I will email them. I do have old lancets and will check the test strips from the old meters. I also still have unused insulin no longer required but was a bit concerned in how they wanted it sent to them, considering it should be kept refrigerated .

I have a 'BM Box' filled with my numerous meters over the years! Some good ideas here, thanks for this thread OP will look into donating them
