Having your levels normal is important for after Riley is born. I've had 2 with GD. The first one was fully under control (with oral insulin, not injections) and the second one wasn't. She didn't want to put me on insulin and the other med I was taking wasn't getting my fasting #'s down. That said, neither of my boys had problems with their blood sugars after they were born.
I'm really surprised at how fast they're moving with all of that though, so that's good news. I would assume they don't think the baby is TOO big at this point and they'd prefer to let him bake as long as needed. And yes, your #'s warrant intervention with medication if diet (& exercise) aren't doing it for you.
