- Michael Gove and his insane educational? policies!
I would insist on seeing the doc. Ring up, ask for an appointment. Don't discuss with receptionist. Complain to practice manager if probs!
Pre prandial means before food.
Post prandial after.
I would get a bs monitor from home health (sd code free as strips are cheapest on market) and test fasting bs. Bs before any food and drink first thing in a morning.
I would ditch any pasta, rice, bread or potatoes
Keep a food diary and test before meals and 2 hours after for a fortnight. Then you'll have some data.
Good luck.
Are you on meds?I have ditched all bread, I didn't eat pasta or rice anyway. I ate chips which I've stopped. I have been testing my BG. Before I cut these foods out my post meal figures were high 8's or 9's. Now they are low 7's or high 6's mostly. So I don't want to put the carbs back in. I'm going to mention about this GAD test if she says I should be on insulin. The doctor who used to take care of the diabetic patients prior to the nurse is on holiday at the moment, and he probably would be the next best bet

Well then there's no way you should be on insulin unless you are not producing any! It is possible to take metformin and then gradually reduce and come off them! I weighed 16 st 1lb at the start of my journey on 28th of Jan 2014. Fasting bloods 13. My doc was as much use as a chocolate fire guard (not my current one) and the diabetic nurse has refused to see me as I refuse to stuff my face with carbs at every meal.

I now way 13st 5lbs, I halved my hba1c to 42. My Metformin has been reduced from 3 tablets to 1 tablet a day.
If I were you, I would refuse to see this woman. I think she sounds incompetent and insist on seeing the doc. Why don't you ask about metformin? Some people don't get on with it as they get diarrhoea but you can get the slow release (it's more expensive so they give everyone the original first). The metformin helps lower bs and is an appetite suppressant. Do you need to lose weight?
I would also ask for a bs monitor. You are entitled to one although your doc might refuse if you are T2 although NICE recommend them for those who are T2 and have just been diagnosed. If you are T1 then all T1 are entitled.
Presumably you have been put on one of the education courses and sent for a foot check plus a retinopathy scan? If not you need to complain.
Please do not be too nice. Your doc is paid additional money for you. In an ideal world. You would be given good advice and the tools to help you manage your diabetes but unfortunately this is not the case for many on this forum. Good luck![/

My DN gave me a BG meter, but I've had to argue to get the strips as she thought the 10 strips that came with the meter was enough. I have had my feet checked and go for my retinopathy screening tomorrow. She said she has sent a form off so I can go to Donald?? I can't remember the name I just remember it was a mans name, she said it's to meet up with other diabetics, so I'm not sure if this is the education course. I do not need to lose weight. At diagnosis I weighed 9st 13lbs (I am 5ft 2") my BMI was 24.8. I have lost a bit of weight now because at the start I panicked & wasn't sure what to eat. I now weigh 9st 5lbs BMI 23.6. This was the other reason she gave for her thinking I need to be on insulin (because I'm not overweight). She hasn't mentioned about me seeing the dietician yet, but I don't think I would want to see her as when my mam was diagnosed with diabetes she told her to eat plenty of baked beans, rice and potatoes, this was in 2002 so I don't know if she's learnt anything since. My mother refused to see her after that.
