I've read somewhere ( can't remember where) that the rise in levels should be no more than 2 between pre and post meal, Does this still apply if they stay within normal range. I'm sorry if this seems like a silly question but I had a pre reading of 4.5 1hr later 7.2 and 2hrs 6.4. I'm just a bit confused.

all of those are good readings
not all will advise taking a 1 hour post meal reading but it is a good way to learn what foods do to your blood sugar.
your pre meal of 4.5 is excellent and 2 hours post meal is pretty darn good too.

With himtoo on this good control the numbers are in the same ballpark as I would expect to see on a good day.

For me I find with a lowish carb meal the peak blood glucose occurs about 75 to 90 minutes after a meal then falls quite sharply, then after about 2.5 hours the rate of reduction in glucose levels slows down.
