Confusion with Marvel milk

I read the back'o'the can the other day and it seems that Marvel is high in sugars.
Or at least in the medium range.
(The bit which says of 'which are sugars' in the carbohydrate section.)

How can this be? I'd always presumed it to be a healthy alternative.
Am I reading this right, and if so... why is skimmed milk much lower?

I don't use Marvel, but In "real" milk, when you remove the fatty part(the cream) you leave behind the water soluble sugars in a smaller volume of liquid, so the proportion of sugars is higher in skimmed milk than in whole milk.
Another thing to think of is the quantity you are using. If It's a high proportion of sugars in a tablespoonful of milk powder, the total sugar is not much.
it's all in the Maths

It's ingredients are listed as lactose, milk so I imagine that when made up into milk with water it could well be higher in carbs (lactose) than fresh milk.(though obviously it depends on the propotion of powder you use to water)
It has 52.9g carb per 100g of powder so you could weigh the amount of powder you are using and work out the carbs.

Hi
I've given up regular milk due to sugar content. Switched to unsweetened soya milk. Takes days to get used to but now I prefer. Great in lattes and cheese sauces. M

I tried soya milk a few years back, and I couldn't get away with the taste, but then again I maybe should have stuck with it longer. I could probably get away with it in a cheese sauce, but in general I would much prefer cows milk any-day. Never tried Marvel, so can't really comment.

Thanks all -

I think I'll stick to skimmed milk as the maths involved with Marvel is way above my intellectual capacity.

Just my luck when I've bought three cans of the stuff too. :?

Perhaps E-Bay.....

Just take back any that are not opened and there is little doubt that they will exchange them.
