I am T2 on diet only and aspirin. Can someone please tell me what is the best medicine to get for constipation. I have very regular exercise (walking 3 miles per day) Also all the usual housework etc. I am 72 years old. I called at 3 chemists this morning for advice (2 were closed) the third suggesterd Liquid Paraffin - but they didnt have any. This is the first time I have been like this since being diagnosed 2 years ago. Any advice welcome. Thank you.
I have diverticular disease and take one senna tablet of an evening, one tablet is enough to stimulate the bowel for next morning.
Plus a sachet of Fybogel with my last meal. The Fybogel will bulk things up a bit and make it easier to go.
You should be able to get both on prescription. Neither are terribly expensive anyway.
My medical advisor an on many simple problems is my brother the vet. His recommendation for constipation is ground peanut shells added to food. Dr. Bernstein however says Psyllium husks, which can be bought at health food shops.
Liquid paraffin has problems such as "leakage".
Drinking plenty of water usually helps to prevent it.
