Hi,
Ive been Diabetic now for 12 years and its fair to say I have never had a good looking HbA1c, i think the closest I have had was an 8.2. I go through phases of how controlled I am with testing and taking my insulin and I have noticed over the past few months that I do really well, to the point my levels can read exactly the same an hour apart (yes that is sometimes how often I test when Im starting on a good streak again). Ive been asked about the pump a few years ago but the idea didnt sit well with me, but recently after talking to an old friend who has recently been given a pump I've started researching again. I've booked a GP appointment for Tuesday (my GP actually has a pump, hopefully she sympathises with me). Before my appointment there is a few things I would like to know as I am getting rather excited at the prospect of having something that might actually work for me.
I understand the strict requirements in the UK but does anyone know if fairly frequent (1-2 a week) night time hypos and rubbish HbA1c's would be reason enough?
Do they take into consideration other factors? ie i can inject up to 9 times a day if not more.
If my GP gave me the go ahead what is the next step? (my GP is also part of my Diabetes Team, I have a GP, Consulant and a Diatician).
How long is the waiting list? Does it depend on what brand pump I want?
Does it hurt to sleep on it, if i had it in my side? Where is best to put the pump when I sleep as I do roll over alot.
