Hey all, not been on for a very long time.
I'm getting concurrent colds and cant seem to get rid - its been ongoing for about 6 weeks now.
I'm checking my bloods and its showing as high constantly.

Any thoughts , I did go to the docs re this asking for antibiotics but was refused.

GP's won't prescribe antibiotics for colds, I'll 'bump' your post up so that other type 2's can advise on your bg levels.

You don't give much information, but here's a few things to consider.
Has your blood sugar only gone up during the colds?
How is your diet? Do you eat plenty of fruit and veg? Plenty of antioxidants with help with colds.
Are you less active with the colds? This could raise your blood sugar.
Are you under stress? This can weaken your immune system, which may be already weakened by diabetes, and increase the likelihood of colds.

i used to get colds all the time and they all proceeded till they turned into bronchitis

then someone put me on to olive leaf extract and in the last 5 years at the first sign of sniffles or sore throat i take several doses of olive leaf extract that day

after watching me get no colds at all no mater how many colds hubby got - he was finally convinced and started taking olive leaf extract too - and he has never had a cold since then

That's interesting Init ... I'm interested in complementary meds and anything that can give my body a rest from being challenged by viruses this winter is very welcome. Can you let us know what brand and what strength of olive leaf extract you use as there are so many on the market.

I have been using this one - yes the syrup

when i feel a tickle in the throat that I know is the start of a cold I guzzle as much of this as I can stand and then gulp some milk to wash away the taste and i do that as many times a day as I think of it

yes I know it is sugary syrup and you would think that keeping away from it would be the right thing for a diabetic to do but

Researchers have found that the natural olive leaf compounds can decrease the level of blood sugar. I have had several cases in my clinic confirming this finding.

One involved a 15-year-old girl with juvenile diabetes. The teenager had been regularly taking 350 units of insulin daily for control. After one month on olive leaf extract, she was able to maintain similar control with just 220 units.

In another case, the blood sugar level of a diabetic elderly priest dropped from 450 to 160 after three months. In an yet another instance, the blood sugar of a middle aged man stabilized at 140, down from 250, after one month. He reported a great increase in energy during this time.
