I have a New - Unopened Contour Next meter that would be an ideal first blood glucose monitor for a newly diagnosed Type 2

The kit includes lancets, 25 strips, meter and instructions

I'm only looking to cover postage costs so a £5 donation to my chosen charity would secure this - posted to you (UK only)

The odd thing about those meters for me, as a right-hander, is that they seem to be designed for left-handed people. Is it just me?

I haven't noticed that (and I'm right handed)
The same could be said about mobiles and tv remotes too then?

I didn't really explain myself. It seems to be logical. People will usually hold the meter with their stronger hand and put the test strip in with their weaker hand. If I do this I then have to invert the Next meter because the display will be upside-down. Remotes are normally ambidextrous aren't they? You seem to be able to get a FREE meter here https://www.diabetes.bayer.co.uk/SSL/eligibility-form/ContourNextUSBmeter.php

This offer has now been taken

Yes - they need to invert the display like other brands
The Next USB doesn't have that issue
