Type 1 Diabetes.
Hi, My names Harry,
I have had Type 1 Diabetes now for about 5 years September just passed,I smoke and i drink i find it very hard to control my Diabetes and my blood sugars most of the time i always can't seem to be bothered to do my blood sugar or actually try the only reason my blood sugar is okay is because i have my amazing mom that count's my carbohydrates in my food and i put them into my machine ( Only when i can be bothered) Im just wondering about what better things could i do or what could i eat that would make me loose weight but have a stable Diabetic Level, Would be good if someone helped me out, Im new to this site! Thanks!

Harry

Hi Harry,

The only way you can achieve good diabetes control is to be pro-active in your own diabetes management, stopping smoking would be the first step and cutting back on alcohol too if you drink over the recommended limit.

Not sure if your on basal/bolus as your profile doesn't say, however if you are there's a carb counting course called DAFNE which teaches type 1's to match their insulin to cover the carbs that they eat, it covers a lot of other things too such as getting your basal dose right, sick-day rules and exercising, it really is a very worthwhile course and many on the forum have benefited from it.

Hi,
Thanks for the advice yeah i am trying to stop smoking recently and i haven't drank that much alcohol, It just used to be something i would do near enough every weekend but i have tryed to avoid party's where i would be drinking alot of alcohol and smoking alot.

Also thanks for posting a reply about that too i will look that up! I also really find it hard to switch where i inject because i am kind of muscley and the doctor said i can't inject anywhere except my legs and my stumoch and my hips (love handles) as the doctor would say haha, but can i inject anywhere else i am trying very hard to control my Diabetes and will update in the future of how i am getting on!

Harry
