Hello all

I am officially diagnosed type 2. My father, sister and cousin all have type 2, and it was suspected that I had Gestational Diabetes when I was pregnant 16 years ago - it ended in miscarriage before I found out.

Then off and on, it was found that I had impaired fasting glycaemia.

Then I was diagnosed with type 2 at the age of 48.

I am 5 ' 2".

I weigh 8st 3 lbs.

I have an active lifestyle, teaching Yoga and looking after a small holding.

In spite of working very hard at control and using a fairly low carb diet and sticking to the rules almost to the point of obsession, I find that i am losing control of my Blood Sugar quite badly - and am never out of the 7s now. I know that this is small fry - but I just can't seem to make an impact on my sugars the way I was doing last year - yet nothing has changed in my approach and I don't seem to meet the general criteria for type 2.

Can anyone give me some advice please?

Should I see the doctor?

Thanks

Cath

Hi. You could be Type 1.5/LADA, or MODY. Maybe worth asking for a GAD/ c-peptide test. Whatever the result, it sounds like your pancreas is going to need some assistance with meds, but you should congratulate yourself for having been able to hold off for so long without.
