Hello, I seem to be going round in circles but getting no real answer on my question.
I am T1 diabetic with chronic renal disease stage 4 (hospitalised 6 months ago with kidney function of less than 10% narrowly avoiding dialysis), currently in middle of 14 self isolation due to member of family displaying covid19 symptoms.
The 14 day period is coming to an end and my work(supermarket retail) is asking if I will be returning as of Monday coming. I have not received a letter as am not in extremely vulnerable group (or am I with combination of underlying health conditions- confused!) I rang the corona virus helpline to ask for advice and they said I should be in the shielding group, but didn't know if I would get a letter. My employer needs proof or it will be annual leave/unpaid leave I need to take.
Should I just wait and see if I get a letter, if not, who to contact as all the information I can see is NHS England, and I am in Scotland.
I understand everyone is extremely anxious during this time,so any advice you can give would be much appreciated.

Hi and welcome @ursy87

Sorry you have been left up in the air.

Not sure where the Shielding letters are sent out from. Do you know if they are being sent by individual doctor's surgeries (because they have your medical records) or from hospital clinics (because they treat you for the condition which puts you in the Shielding group)?

I would suggest that you contact the place that knows the most about your particular combination of health conditions, and ask them if they are supplying the Shielding letter, and if not, who is? And also clarify that you are actually included in the group.

Here in England, when we get an appt to a clinic, we always get a letter through the post. Somewhere on that letter is a contact number we can use to cancel/rearrange the appt. It usually takes you through to the admin who work for the clinic and deal with the consultant. They might be a very good place to start.

Hi , We're in the same position in Scotland too, looking for a letter but no one seem to know, it is said that letters should have been sent by 29th March but by whom ?.

I think I will try and give my renal clinic a call tomorrow. I am due to have an appointment at beginning of April anyway, so will phone asking if that's still going ahead, and see if they can offer any advice. It's just so annoying that they have shifted the goalposts from the original statement as they realised how many people it would affect, or that is how it seems. If 111 hadn't said to me I should be shielding, I would still not be comfortable returning to work, and would, even in the short term, take my annual leave until I saw how the situation was panning out.
