Seem to be quite bothered with cramp in my legs at the moment, don't know if it with me starting to play golf again or not,for probs the last couple of months I have felt like my hamstring has been ready to go pop but was wondering if anyone else has this problem

Thanks Jim.....

Hi Jim,

I have been having awful cramps in my calves and feet. Now I'm on metformin and low carb (diagnosed in August), the cramps have almost gone away. I still get them now and again though.

Leg cramps can be caused by too little salt (very common on low carb), or potassium or magnesium deficiencies.
I resolved mine by increasing my salt.

Take lots of salt at the moment mate probs more than I should

Try some potassium/magnesium foods. See if that works.

Good sources of magnesium
Magnesium is found in a wide variety of foods, including:

  • green leafy vegetables – such as spinach
  • nuts
  • brown rice
  • bread (especially wholegrain)
  • fish
  • meat
  • dairy foods

Good sources of potassium
Potassium is found in most types of food.

Good sources of potassium include:
  • fruit – such as bananas
  • some vegetables – such as broccoli, parsnips and brussels sprouts
  • pulses
  • nuts and seeds
  • fish
  • shellfish
  • beef
  • chicken
  • turkey
