Yes I am lucky my other 'alf understands AND takes an interest....we have a fantastic relationship - having been in one that has no understanding and no interest to now - we should not compare but we do !!!..........its just refreshing, and I for one feel very lucky.

As stated my post was tongue in cheek to see other experiences....I'm actually moving toward the fact that the advice isnt so innappropriate - as I have listened to the differing views......I can see the logic and science !!......its about boundaries.....the doc did not outline any.!!!.........and I'm really intrigued with the pumps........if it means i get a chance to try the regime..... i'm open !!!

ok, I concur, sometimes some posts can be a bit rude, but I'm convinced the people behind them aren't meaning to be, does that make sense?! Perhaps I'm just looking on the bright side, or perhaps I am delusional, you decide :lol: :wink:

Pumps are wicked. If you get the chance, go for it! your OH will love it, she will be able to learn with you and be very smug when she gets it right and remembers how to change the cartridge and you balls it up :mrgreen: My OH wore the infusion set for a few days, just to show willing and now gets very smug and thinks he knows EVERYTHING about pumps!! I have great fun putting him right :wink: :mrgreen:

Not sure I agree with Doublebed on how you should take negative comments. They don't help you and just because they are getting it right doesn't give them the right to judge you. Thought this community thing was to help each other with constuctive comments and ideas or views...

Diabetes can be a nightmare I know as I spent 25 years with averages around 9 upwards and taking 6 injections a day to try and control it. Needless to say it didn't work.
Pumps have changed my life, depite the problem I am having now with unawareness.

If you want a pump you will have a fight on your hands as the NHS don't give them out willy nilly as the pumps and accessories needed are expensive. When I started on the pump my average was 14.9 and within three months of going onto the pump my average went to 6.9 At the time I was so shocked at what the consultant said when he congratulated me on getting my average down I burst into tears and then threw a hypo ten minutes later:lol: while still in the clinic. And despite my current problem my average has never gone above 8.9

The pump didn't just affect my readings but it has given me back my life.

I had to fight to get a pump as my consultant was not into trying new technology and wanted to save the NHS money. I won only because I could prove that I was costing the NHS more by not going on the pump and having been in ITU twice when things went wrong finally persuaded him.

Look up the NICE Guidelines about your average and also a website called INPUT - you will find all the info you need to get you started. If you can't get them to agree to put you on you could always do something to raise the money for the pump but I don't know where you would stand on the accessories needed.

ah, didn't see the comments! just read them though and has reminded me what an absolute gem my daughter is, before my OH came along she dealt with hypo's and called the calvary and the paramedics several times, all before she was 10 years old. They both deserve medals 8)

i'm currently asking for one, so i guess it's even better when your recommended as i'm sure they wouldnt recommend you without a high chance it will all be followed through.

Had a night hypo last night 1am and I felt it

I can't believe it but the crazy advice actually works!!! Took 20 days but my threshhold for hypo awareness has gone from 1.8 to 2.4 and I love it. Woke up feeling like someone had dumped a bucket of lukewarm water all over me. Very horrible but I am sssssoooooo happy :lol:

Feel terrible this morning from lack of sleep and high bg when I woke up on 14.6 but I am over the moon. 2.4 gives me much more time to deals with things without worrying that I am going to pass out or anything.

Six months, 3 nurses, 2 consultants and 6 clinic appointments later something starts to work.

I feel like I've won the lottery! :mrgreen:

Congratulations - great news. Indeed - waking up a bit high the morning after isn't too bad when you realise your body has managed to alert you to a hypo whilst asleep!

The headaches are awful, got one at the moment as I am now around 18.1 No ketones at the moment though but I do feel really sick and weepy :cry: I don't go snappy until I hit 20's + so I'm stuck trying to stop myself from crying at the moment.

Lots of water and an anadin with ibruprofen (really strong pain killers) are helping a little. Along with a cup of lemon and ginger tea to revive. Hoping that at some point this morning I am going to feel human again; it that or I go home and go to bed but then I have to admit that my diabeties is winning and I aint doing that :x

Your poor OH. Perhaps she should wait and have a teenage tantrum when your lower to get her own back and blame it on her high bgs :lol:

Perhaps if you increase your doses a little not all the way back to what it was but just enough to adjust it again. I know from pumping that I would simply take a correcting dose and up my hourle rate but not sure how well you can do that on injections (been a long time from having to rely on them) but maybe you can do something similar by taking a small dose of fast acting 1-2 units an hour but keep a close eye on your bgs. Check bg on an hourly basis and check for ketones as your system isn't used to running so high for so long as you might get them quicker. The small doses might help to nudge you down slowly rather than plumit you back down and then into a hypo.

Smaller changes and movements are easier to deal with and don't hurt so much.

I suspect your already know this stuff but I know too much sugar in the brain can make confuse you just as much as lack of.
